What are the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)?
In September 2015, at the United Nations Sustainable Development Summit, 193 world leaders adopted the new 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
There are 17 goals and targets. It is a blueprint for the future, for people and the planet. They have the power to address the global challenges we face, including:
- an end to poverty
- sustainable economic development
- protection of the environment
- access to health and education services
- gender equality
- peaceful societies
- decent work
Where can I get information on the SDGs?
Ireland's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) data hub is a very useful resource to access information on specific goals and for checking how Ireland is measuring up.
The Department of the Environment, Climate and Communications also provides up to date policy information on the Sustainable Development Goals at the following webpage - https://www.gov.ie/sdgs

Are the SDGs relevant to me?
Yes they are relevant to us all - at work, at home, in our communities and schools. Whether you are an individual, a member of a Community Development Group, Tidy Towns group or working in the public or private sector we can all link what we do to an SDG or indeed several SDGs. It is good for us all to be aware of the positive contribution we can make to sustaining our local and global communities for the future.

Can I use the SDG logos for work and in the community?
Yes you can. You can download the SDG logos and guidelines (without UN emblem) at: https://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/news/communications-material/.
