Limerick Rd/Clare Rd, Active Travel Scheme Scheme

Public Consultation

Clare County Council, through grant funding from the National Transport Authority (NTA) is proposing to deliver an Active Travel Scheme along the R458 Regional Road between Clarecastle and St. Flannans Roundabout in Ennis (including the upgrading of crossing facilities at Clareabbey Roundabout). The scheme also proposes to upgrade the existing facilities along the L4506 local primary road between St. Flannans Roundabout and Clonroadbeg and its junction with the R475 Kilrush Rd.

The purpose of this scheme is to improve safety and continuity for cyclists, pedestrians and vulnerable road users via the provision of a suite of traffic calming measures including vertically segregated cycle lanes, shared surfaces, tightened junctions together with raised cyclist / pedestrian crossings and associated works.

We are hosting a non-statutory public consultation over a number of weeks from Monday 08th December 2025 until Friday 16th January 2026 at 4pm. The purpose of this consultation period is to seek input from, and discuss any concerns with, residents and businesses in the area and the wider public about the scheme proposals.

During this period, we will host an in-person public consultation event where members of the public may come to view the scheme drawings and interact with the Design Team.

Details of this In-Person event are:

Location: Loughnane and McCarthy Room of the West County Hotel, Limerick Rd, Ennis, Co. Clare V95 C9CT. This will be done over two sessions:

• Session 1: Thursday 11th December 2025 - 1.00pm - 3.00pm

• Session 2: Thursday 11th December 2025 - 5.00pm - 7.00pm
