Clare Arts Office are inviting Primary and Secondary schools to submit their applications for the Artist in Schools Residencies Scheme 2023-2024. This year we are awarding residencies to the value of €1,200.

Schools can select the following artists for the purpose of making the application:

• Artists on our Artists in School Panel- you can view the Artists Panel on this link https://clarearts.ie/context/artists-in-schools-panel/
• Artists who have undertaken one of the Teacher ~Artist Partnership courses run in association with Clare Education Centre.
• Application must be co developed and written JOINTLY with the artist of choice.
• This online platform will only accept ONE application per email address. In the instance where an artist wishes to submit several proposals with different schools, the school must be the one to submit proposal online.

Aims of the Scheme

The Clare Arts Office Artists in Schools Programme is designed to create opportunities for artists and schools to work together over a specific duration of time.

We favour projects that are innovative, unique and that foster creativity, skills development and an introduction to the language used in art making.

We also encourage projects that introduce children to experience the cross disciplinary nature of the arts, projects which connect ideas and art making to other subjects e.g. history, science, the environment, local, national and global cultures and traditions.

Projects can be collaborative and involve other creative practitioners and organisations but must be developed with the input of both the artist and the school.

Assessment Criteria

Projects will be assessed according to the following criteria

o Quality and innovation of the concept/idea for the proposal. (30)

o Quality of the artists work and track record as demonstrated by the support documentation submitted with the application, including the Artists CV. (30)

o Feasibility of the proposed project, budget, time frame, number of students etc. (30)

o Potential for the project to leave a creative impact on the school. (10)

Terms and Conditions

• Schools who participated on the scheme last year and schools who are currently participating in the Department of Education’s Creative Schools and Creative Clusters scheme may not apply for the 2023/2024 round. A list noting ineligible schools is available to view on this page ( see top right hand column to download and view).
• No school or artist is guaranteed an award. The scheme will be adjudicated by an independent selection panel. The number of awards will be dependent on the funding available to the County Arts Office.
• Only one award will be granted per school.
• Artists are welcome to work with more than one school and can be awarded up to a maximum of three residencies.
• Schools are responsible for covering the cost of materials.
• Artists are responsible for costing their projects appropriately in line with the award amount of €1,200. The Visual Artists Ireland recommended rate of pay for artists is €50 per hour for this type of work. Costs to include are: Artist's fee, prep, travel and attendance at opening/performance if any.
• All award recipients will be required to sign and submit a Memorandum of Understanding and a Health and Safety Risk Assessment before starting a project.
• All successful artists are required to have adequate and comprehensive Public Liability Insurance to the value of (€ 6.5 million) indemnifying Clare County Council.
• All successful artists are required to undertake Garda Vetting and to undertake Child First Training (HSE-TULSA).
• Documentation and Evaluation: Upon completion of the residency the school is required to submit up to five high quality images and/or a digital media link of music/video work created. This media will be used to showcase the project on the Clare Arts Office social media channels and website. Images can be of works in progress and/or completed works. The school is responsible for ensuring that all and any media submitted to the Arts Office with images of young children must first be approved for public use.

Closing Date

The closing date for applications for is Friday the 10th of November at 5pm.

Late applications will not be accepted.
