The Healthy Clare Working Group are gathering information from interested stakeholders in preparation for Healthy Ireland Round 4 funding 2023-2025. Information collected will influence our next Healthy Clare Action Plan which is a requirement of Healthy Ireland Round 4. Round 4 is different to Rounds 1,2 and 3 as it is a 3 year programme and is outcomes focused.
The Healthy Clare Working Group are focusing on the following 2 Outcomes for the next 3 years, Healthy Weight (with a focus on Overweight, Obesity and Malnutrition) and Mental Health Promotion (aiming to reduce the number of deaths by suicide in Clare). The HSE’s Health Intelligence Unit put together a Local Authority Health Heat Map for each county and Clare is above the national average for both of these outcomes.
To further align with a health promotion and prevention approach to tackling these outcomes, we are focusing on the ‘Determinants of Health’. These are also known as the ‘Building Blocks of Health’ and the ‘Root causes of both good and ill health’. Using research from England we have identified 9 determinants for each outcome. These are the themes of each of the tables at our stakeholder event and online consultation process.
This is a scoping exercise to help identify what the issues and possible solutions are to addressing these challenges around the county. From the data collected targeted actions will be developed that will be included in the next work plan for Healthy Clare. There is potential for other currently working in this space to also identify actions for their programs of work too.
